School Data Rooms Bring Data Out of the Drawers and Into the Open

School administrators are skilled at collecting data, however too often, they end up storing it – literally. The accountability and assessment movements are pushing schools to move it out of drawers, but, instead, into the open. Some schools are taking a step further and have created school data rooms in which teachers can access student data in an organized and easily accessible manner.

Walls of color-coded sticky notes cover the walls of Gilliard Elementary School, Mobile, Alabama. The notes inform teachers about how their students are doing in math and reading standards as well, as they provide attendance and discipline records.

The aim http://www.dataroomdata.com/store-legal-documents-securely-with-a-virtual-data-room/ is to help teachers to understand and address the needs of students before they get out of hand. For instance, if a student hasn’t achieved their reading goal, the teacher may offer additional instruction in class or assist the student outside of school. If a student has a problem with their behavior, the teacher might refer them to counseling or even consider taking the student from class.

Baker’s plan is to have teachers celebrate their students’ progress by putting data at the spotlight. In the spring of 2013, a homeless student was proud to announce that he had achieved his reading goal.

Make sure you follow FERPA guidelines and protect your student’s privacy prior to making the switch to a data room. This is especially important for classroom data displays, where sensitive information like counseling sessions and disciplinary decisions can be accidentally exposed.
